That already puts it in the part of the market where normal family buyers start paying attention, because seven seats and real road-trip range are still not a common combo. The bigger deal is that Subaru did not build this thing like a rolling appliance. The official reveal says the Getaway can tow up to 3,500 pounds, has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and uses X-MODE Dual-Mode for snow, dirt, and rougher stuff, while Subaru’s reveal release also calls out NACS charging and a 10% to 80% fast-charge time of about 30 minutes. If you are the kind of buyer who actually hauls kids, gear, or a small trailer, those details matter a lot more than another flashy ambient-lighting demo. What Subaru has not said yet is the part that will decide whether this becomes a real hit or just a nice auto show conversation piece: the price. That is why this launch feels promising but unfinished. The closest current benchmark is the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9, which starts at $58,955 and goes up to $76,490 depending on the trim. If Subaru lands somewhere near the lower-middle part of that range, the Getaway could make a lot of sense for buyers who want three rows without giving up all-weather confidence or a little towing flexibility. My early take is simple: this thing looks far more interesting than many oversized EV family barges, but I would wait for the MSRP before getting too emotionally attached. The spec sheet is good.
