Mini’s Paceman concept vehicle (shown below) is a two-door crossover based on the Countryman, so it follows reason that the production version of the Paceman will be called the Countryman Coupe. When you read Countryman Coupe it actually seems like Mini is trying to make things easier for customers, rather than insisting that the two-door is a completely different model a la Toyota Matrix, Mini is respecting our intelligence. Unfortunately that respectful naming scheme means the Paceman will have a really long name: the 2014 Mini Cooper Countryman Coupe. And the high performance version will be the Mini John Cooper Works Countryman Coupe.
Mini has not officially shown the production Countryman, but Autoblog says that patent drawings of the crossover have leaked to the internet and indicate that it won’t be far from the concept. That makes sense, since the concept wasn’t as so much an outlandish dream-car as a testing of the waters.
The 2014 Mini Countryman Coupe will probably be a polarizing vehicle, like the Range Rover Evoque. But like the Evoque, people who get the Countryman Coupe will fall in love with the stylish, high riding coupe.
