The 2012 Kia Soul is offering buyers a refreshed version of this unique vehicle that’s becoming a favorite for some buyers of smaller personal wagons. The new version of the Soul includes some style changes as well as additions to what’s inside the vehicle. All of this is meant to support ongoing sales for Kia Motors and its collection of small cars that are blending affordability with modernity for today’s often cash-strapped U.S. customers.

According to Car and Driver, a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine gives drivers about 135 hp on the base model 2012 Kia Soul. This car also gets enhanced fuel economy in a market where gas savings is king, with 28 miles per gallon in city and 34 miles per gallon on highway. There’s also a 2 liter engine choice with a little more power, around 160hp, and estimated miles per gallon of 27/33. A six speed transmission will complement this block. In terms of style, there are changes to lamps, bumpers, and other aspects of the car to help bring the Soul into the 2012 model year. That’s not to say the 2011 doesn’t look fine on the road, but before rushing out to buy last year’s model, it might be useful to take a look at how Kia is developing the Soul’s style for 2012.

Other changes to the 2012 Soul model include more soundproofing in the cabin with insulating materials, and available options like navigation and voice command entertainment. Customers can also choose to add conveniences like heated seating and keyless ignition; all of this will be available at a base price around $20,000, according to some recent estimates.

The Kia Soul, with its cryptic set of trim titles and squared-off cabin, is not much like anything else you generally see on the road. This five door hatchback promises to compete handily with competitors like the Nissan Cube and Scion xB for drivers who want this kind of style. Coming from the makers of other popular small cars like the Kia Rio, the Soul represents an essential part of the strategy of Hyundai/Kia in expanding their presence on the American market. Look around for the best deals on this new model Kia as it continues to make its way to dealer’s lots near you.
