BMW unveiled the X6 M and announced pricing for both the 2010 X5 M and X6 M on Monday.  The X5 M will cost $86,225 and the X6 M will cost $89,725.  Both will feature a 555 horsepower twin-turbo V8 that will give the SUVs a 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds.  All-wheel drive will be standard on both of the X-M models.

Your first impression of the X5 M and X6 M might be confusion.  Who would want a 555 hp SUV that can’t be taken offroad and will obviously handle worse than the similarly priced M5?  You’re making an awful lot of concessions for a car that costs 85 grand.  But this is a recession, even the moderately rich don’t have the kind of money they used to, and that’s where the X5 M and X6 M fit in.  These two super SUVs can take the place of your M5 and your X5.  With the astronomical horsepower of the M on tap whenever you want it and the ability to be driven in snow, the X5 M and X6 M can be your only vehicle.  You could even rent out that extra garage space you’ve freed up to generate some extra income.

In the alphabet soup department, The BMW X5 and X6 will come with CCM (which stands for Cylinder-bank Comprehensive Manifold, a system that eliminates turbo lag), ICM (for Integrated Chassis Management, which helps with handling and ride comfort), M-tuned xDrive(BMW’s all-wheel drive system) and DPC (for Dynamic Performance Control, which according to BMW will “ensure near-perfect distribution of power”).
