The Lexus LS has been the flagship model for the company for well over 10 years now. Combining the best luxury with the greatest technology in Toyota’s mighty arsenal, the LS is a true premier executive saloon. Its V8 and hybrid V8 engines offer unparalleled moving power, if a bit thirsty on the old dino-juice.
Now though, Lexus is taking a page from its competitor’s books and is releasing a new V6 LS. That is the latest rumor going around a least. Lexus needs a smaller engine in markets where cars of this caliber can be sold with smaller engines. In Europe, for example, BMW has been selling the new 740i with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 making about 326hp. Though not lacking in power, it averages much better fuel economy than its more powerful V8 brethren.
Whether or not the V6 will come to America is yet to be decided. It will certainly be coming on the new face-lifted model LS, if it does come here. While other luxury car makers have shied away from offering smaller engines in their top-of-the-line luxury models, Lexus might just start a good trend here. This type of car could alter American buyer’s persepectives on what a luxury car can be. How ’bout a V6 hybrid now, eh?
