One of the things that has always rung true is that performance costs you. Want the bigger, faster engine? Well, it sips a bit more fuel. What the best, most griping tires? Well, they don’t last as long. The evidence is everywhere, speed costs money.
Well Audi can fix at least one of those problems with it’s newest TT-S. The sportiest top-of-the-line TT is not only fast, but quite frugal for a sports car. Motivation comes from a warmed up version on the company’s award winning 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder producing 265hp. EPA figures of 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg highway round out to a tasty 24 mpg combined. All that from a high-compression turbo engine that generates 133 hp per liter! Impressive stuff indeed…
An Audi spokesperson has stated that the all-wheel-drive TTS runs 0-60 4.9 seconds (that’s fast folks!) in coupe form, with the roadster, it clocks a 5.1-second 0-60mph run. Audi confirms the TTS coupe and roadster will come to the U.S. but only with the six-speed S tronic dual-clutch automated manual transmission. Sorry pedal-philes, not manual.
When it does arrive here, I expect it to be a good sum more expensive that the Quattro V6 model, and that model retails for around $44,000. I would guess right around $50,000. A lot of money for a lot of TT. Add a lot of performance with above average fuel consumption and Audi has a winner in my book!
