Ah yes, the Volkswagen Golf. If there ever was a car that embodied the spirit and ingenuity of the VW brand, this is it. The Golf has been a seminal car for the German auto giant. It’s Volkswagen’s best selling model of recent years.
Now Volkswagen has recently announced the release of it’s 6th generation Golf. The pictures are only of the regular Golf and no news has been released yet about any other models, including the high-performance GTI version. We also don’t know whether or not the Jetta will share a similar resenblence to this model like the current one does.
Technical details were quite vague, but we do know that in Europe the cars will be getting ultra-efficient small displacement motors. Also this new platform will be the debut for Volkswagens new 7-speed DSG transmission. The twin-charged TSI engines will also be available for the cars debut. The TSI is a small displacement 1.4-liter engine that is turbocharged and supercharged to make a resulting 168 hp.
Pricing in Europe will begin at the equivalent of about $25,000 but in the U.S. they will probably start at around $16,000 like the current Rabbit. Whether or not we will get the new impressive powertrains is still unknown, but the car is expected to debut here in the States at the end of 2009 as a 2010 model.

I think the new Golf looks fantastic. I really love the sharper lines and more aggressive grill.
