General Motor’s Chevrolet division has issued news that it will offer it’s upcoming 2010 Camaro muscle car in more markets than just America. All this excitement stems from Britain’s Autocar magazine quoting Wayne Brannon, chief executive of Chevrolet Europe, as saying the U.K. will get a right-hand-drive Camaro in early 2010.
“We can have a maximum of 1,000 right-hand-drive coupes and 1,000 right-hand-drive [convertibles], so the U.K. should get a good number of models,” said Brannon. The report speculated that about 300 units of each of the 6.0-liter, 400-horsepower variants will be exported to the U.K.
It seems natural that the Camaro will only be offered overseas with the 6.0-liter V8 as there it will be considered a niche specialty vehicle. Autocar said the U.K. edition of the Camaro likely will be priced above the Vauxhall VXR8, which starts at just under $70,000. Yikes! That’s a lot of dough for a car that will probably sell here for under $35,000, but if one thing holds true it’s that American muscle is popular everywhere, not just here at home.
