Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks have been the best selling vehicles in America for a couple of years running now. Ford has been comfortable with that fact for a while, but now it seems trends are changing. Blame gas prices, blame the economy, but the most sold car in America as I write this is Toyota’s Corolla.
The Japanese factory sold 52,826 Corollas in May alone. Ford’s F-Series on the other hand, sold 42,973 that same month. The last time any car has outsold the F series was October 1991.
Jim Farley, Ford group vice president for marketing and communications, said the F-series loss to Toyota’s cars was a “significant development.” “But it’s not surprising, given the fuel price,” Farley said. “That’s just a sign of the times. I think May has been a watershed month.”
Whatever you say Jim, but n umbers don’t lie. Toyota said Corolla sales rose 12.4 percent in May and are still rising. This is just another sign of the upcoming trends in how people perceive transport. Sorry F-Series, but as they say; “The king is dead, long live the new king!”
